We are a fifth-generation production agricultural family.  Originating in Western North Dakota, and transplanting to Eastern MT in 1990. Today, our operation consists of Registered and Commercial Angus cattle, managed and operated by our family.

Originally, we started out as a commercial cow/calf operation. In 1998 as a sophomore at Custer County District High School, with the support and direction of FFA advisor, Mr. Jack Larsen, Cole received a State of MT FFA loan to purchase five Registered Angus cows from the Cedar Hills Dispersion sale.

The start of Cook Angus.

Over the next few years, Cole had the opportunity to meet, listen to, and be guided by some outstanding gentlemen. In 2006, Larry Leinhart gave him the chance to pick 16 head of bred cows, from all three lines of his cattle. At the same time, Tyler went to Saddle Butte Ranch and purchased five registered, 5- and 6-year-old cows from Harrison O’Conner.  In 2012, Cole added bred females from Bruce Hould’s dispersion. The cows from these top shelf cattlemen are the foundation of our Registered herd.

The next piece of the puzzle came in 2016 when Cole reached out to Jack MacNamee and his family. This started out as being a guest consignor in their annual bull sale.  We can’t thank Jack and his entire family enough, for all the support and mentorship. In 2021 we lost some cows to the Richard Spring fire. To replace the cows we lost, we purchased some cows from McCumber Angus. Matt and Cythia have been great to work with and helped use move forward with our program. Our foundation cow genetics are Shoshone, OCC and Sinclair.

Our cattle are raised in a SE Montana environment of good years and not so good years. Our ranch consists of native, tame, warm and cool season forage. Diversification from Rosebud Creek meadows to sand rock ridges with cedar trees and pine trees, and reclaimed Peabody Mine ground, with sand rock piles and rabbit runs.  Water wells with pipelines are the current main source of water. Solar wells also work well with more to come. The commercial cows are ran at home and at the ranch next to us that we lease.

Our philosophy is simple yet challenging: raise a self-sufficient, broody Angus female, consistently. Sounds easy! It takes disciplined commitment, unwavering dedication, long hours, unmatched support from family, friends, mentors, along with daily prayers with faith.
